i have a .30wcf and .30-06.

i have a lee 311-100-2R that i was recommended. but it is throwing out of round and oversized boolits(.314 at the widest part). this mould was already sent back once because the blocks were too loose and didnt line up.

so what is a good boolit(non lee) that is inexpensive to shoot and cast, and would work for both guns.

I have a 311-100-2R that I used for a light boolit in the 32-20, but would have only considered it a "gallery boolit" for the 30-30 and '06.

IMO, the Lee C309-150F or C309-170F would be better choices, but lots of guys have good success with the C309-113-F (soup can).

I KNOW that you said "not Lee", but I just bought a pair of double cavity 150Fs and they're both very good.

You might look for Lyman 311041 or 311291, RCBS 30-150FN, or Saeco #307, Saeco #315. NOE had just made a run of the 311-165RF, so you might want to check and see if any are still available. I bought a 4 cavity with (2) plainbase and (2) GC.

Lyman, RCBS, and Saeco all make a 30cal plainbase(140-160gr) for the Cowboy Action crowd if you want to go that way for a plainbase. The Lyman 311008 32-20 design is another plainbase, but close to 120gr.

I use my Lyman 311008 115gr PB or my 311316 115gr GC for plinking. Not sure they are the best for plinking but they do seem to shoot well in my 30-40 Krag and 30-06.

Take a look at the RCBS 120 grain RN/GC. I use it in my 30 Carbine and it does well in my 30-30 and 30-06 with gallery loads for short range. RCBS mold blocks aren't the cheapest around, but their quality control is good. Saeco also has a couple of choices for 30 cal, but they're more expensive than RCBS. Both of these brands turn out good quality and you don't have to fiddle with them to get things to work ok. LLS

I use a .311" (sized to)32-20 bullet in my '06, because the throat is .311" and it shoots good for plinkin. So, I do think your on the right track w/ your bullet choice (light and cheap).
Can you size some of those to .311" and see how they do?
BTW I use 7 grs. of Reddot, makes a real cheap load if I can't recycle the lead.

i tried sizing them to .310, its very hard to size them in my lyman 45, and it smears lead up one side of the boolit leaving it unshootable.

Consider a Lee push thru sizer. The bullet goes thru NOSE firstand doesn't "smear" like in theLyman 45. PLUS it is cheaper than a new mold! I use the 311041, 311 291 or a Loverin style 170 grain for most of MY .30 cal shooting. My 30-30 is a Contender single shot though!

ive got a lee push thru, but it sizes to .308 exactly, which is too small for both guns.

im checking into a noe 152gr gb.

I shoot thousands of TL314-90-SWCs and Lymans 311227s through all my .30/.31 cal rifles. I suggest you get a Lee 311 sizer, lightly TL the 311-100-2R bullets, let dry and then push through the .311 sizer base first (keeps the bases square), then load them over 2.7 gr Bullseye in the 30WCF and 3.2 gr Bullseye in the '06. No filler or wad is necessary. Belocity will be 800 -900 fps and you should get surprising accuracy. Makes for a very pleasant plinking/small game load.

I've used Lyman's 3118, and 311316 for many years in the 30-30, 308, 7.62 X 39 and 30-06, and I guess I used it for a while in a .300 Savage. Both bullets have always shot very well, and I've burned many pounds of Unique behind them. These days I'm using more Red Dot, and TiteGroup, but the bullets still perform very well. I like the Lee 150 FN for an inexpensive mold that has shot well in every gun I've tried it in too. Just cast some more of those this morning.

Why not Ranch Dogs 311-115 design. Should work in both guns.

what size does that TL314-90-SWC come out of the mould Larry? that might be a good one for my BSA Martini Cadet. Is that a Lee TL or another make? thanks. God Bless to all.

.314 - .315 depending on alloy. I mostly cast mine of recovered range lead off an indoor range where lots of .22LR, commercial cast and jacketed rounds were recovered. It is pretty soft and I add 2% tin to make it cast better. I've even used straight recovered .22LR alloy will the same excellent results. Probably would do well with pure lead/tin at 40/1 as at the 790 - 1025 fps (.32 H&R is the 1025 fps, the rifles, .30/.31, run 790 - 900 fps) used. I regularly plink at rocke, etc. on the 200 yard berm with this load so accuracy is not a problem.

I really like the Lee 100 2r in my 303brit, no need to size or anything, just cast up, water quench LLA and go over 6.0gr of Unique. No filler, nothing, gives me very consistent 1245fps from an Enfield. I got similar results with 6gr Unique in a 30-30, but sized boolit to 309......I am going to try out in a 308 lever soon, to see. By the way these lay one heck of a thumping on gophers (prairie ground squirrels), u can just hear the thump and no flipping around, just lay there. Best of luck. Matt

I like the 311316 boolit with 2400 behind it for my 3006 for powder puff loads.

Now that I'm thinking about it, the 311466 is also a nice one for target and plinking, IMO.
