I have been given permission by SWMBO'D to make one last rifle purchase.
Hard part is I don't have a clue as to what to buy.Being a milsurp nut I was thinking about getting another.
Was thinking a 6.5 swede or a K31 but there are none available anywhere around me.

I think I would like something built on a 30/06 or 308 case as I have buku's of both brass in milspec brass
Was looking at a Hornady reloading manual and saw the 257 roberts and 270 remington.

Would like someones feedback on them.

For me it is mostly steel or paper as I can not get away long enough to go hunting anymore so that is also a factor in the equasion.

Thanks and am looking forward to some answers to help me decide.

If you have 30/06 brass and you mentioned 257 Roberts, go with 25/06 Rem rifle. Neck down your 06 brass, sort by weight and you will not regret it. I love the Roberts but the 25/06 makes sense for you, IMO.

"one last rifle"

Yeah, right...

You might want to consider getting a Curio and Relic license (C&R). Thirty-bucks for three years. Samco Global has both Swede and Swiss rifles and Spanish Mausers that have been converted to .308/7.62 NATO. Additionally, Midway, Brownells, Huntington's, Numrich, etc. offer discounts.

Id get one that will accept different caliber barrels like a handi rifle. Technically a barrel is not another rifle. lol

If I could only have one more rifle, it would have to be a 1903A3 Springfield.

Beekeeper,
I'm worried about you! You aren't about to kick the bucket on us are you? That's about the only way I could see "one last rifle" for any of this crowd! I know something "follows me home" at least 3 or 4 times a year. Here's hoping you are still physically ok with MANY more years to go.

the switch barrel rifle idea is best !!!! or at the very least a encore , then you can have about any caliber you want ( good thing she didnt state one last pistol :P )

I'm kind of in the same frame of mind right now. My wife will be retiring from the Air Force in less than three years and we'll be moving back into our house in OK. At least for a few years neither of us will be working (I retired from the AF a few years ago) since we have small children and plan on traveling and homeschooling. This means no major purchases for a while. I'd like to get a Garand and a GP-100 before we are living on a "fixed income." This should round out my collection.

With a good M-98 action, anything is possible!

I'm with jhrosier, it would have to be a 03-A3. There is a dealer near me that sells only high quality rifles and shotguns at premium prices and he has a 03-A3 in perfect like new condition that I have been drooling over for some time now.

I pray that you're fingers were behind your back and "crossed" when you accepted those terms of the new agreement..........

Beekeeper Do the smart thing. Just to show how much I appreciate your generous offer I will only buy a Stevens 200 long action. Now you can pick up all kinds of bbls and swap out till you are to old to reload anymore. I can go from a 20 var/targ to a 30-06 in about 15 minutes. The big difference between the Savage and Stevens is better polishing, blueing and the accu trigger. All of my Stevens rifles will shoot better than I can (1/2") but who is counting. I just picked up a new 7-08 for $45.00 to my door. I am confident if the weather ever warms up this Savage bbl will be as good as the other 9 or 10 I have been using.
