FYI: The site below looks like it should be useful for IDing the zinc containing weights. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

It looks like our free or cheap lead supply might be coming to an end.

If these get popular, range scrap may be a no go too:

Now's the time to put away whatever you think you're going to need for the future.

Hope you're at least 80, if you expect that to last you!

I remember several years ago when surplus powder was cheap; a fellow I knew on a gunsmith forum bought a 55 gallon drum of IMR4895 from Jeff Bartlett, with the expectation that he would be set for life. In 3 years he was scraping the bottom!
Actually, that's not as many rounds as it would seem. A gallon holds about 8 lbs so 55 gallons would be 440 lbs x 7000= a little over 3 million grains or about 67,000 shots of full-power .30/06. I'll take a drum each of 4895, RL7, 2400 and Red Dot (although the RD would weigh substantially less).

I'm not too worried about lead; if it gets too bad I'll just go to SE Missouri and do some prospecting!

Two things:

(1) This is why you can't have enough lead stock piled.

(2) I wonder what they will find is awful and horrible about zinc in 5 or 10 years?
