Semi-seriously tho, to the question.........I'm looking for suggestions for a good stout powder charge to push my boolits out of my NM Blackhawk, and my Puma 92, both .45 Colt. I'll be going out after West Texas ( Big Bend area ) hogs. The boolit is easy, it's a 50/50 WW/Lino water dropped C452-300-RNFP, Lee mold#90359, w/gas check. Toying with the idea of 9.5 Unique, but open to suggestions, or loads that have done this kinda work fer y'all.

and whilst I await the influx of pertinent information,

A large order of fries and a few drinks always seemed to work good.

Woodman,

Out of my Blackhawk, with a 300gr boolit, I use 21.0grs of W296 or H110. Gets about 1250-1300 f.p.s. out of my 4 5/8" barrel. Never shot a porker with it, but it has shot end to end through a couple of deer. I imagine your Puma would give more velocity with this load, but I have no idea how much.

Woodman, that's my powder load with a Magnus 454 Casull - 300gr. Whacks the living hell out of the steel at 300yds with my 1860 Henry and my 1892. Don't see why it won't drop a pig.

I guess them pigs will be javelina and not feral hogs? I hunt near Alpine and we have some of the few feral hogs in the area... they seem to prefer elevations about 5 to 6000'. Anyway, it won't take much punch to kill a javelina. I've killed them with a 22 RF and with a 45 ACP with a little bit of stalking. You will have a great time!

Take a look at Lil'Gun. Works better than H110 for me.

I found that 20 grain of H110, 300 grain Saeco, gas checked, sized .454, lubed with LBT Blue is accurate and powerful in a 92 and Colt Anaconda.

I've used the exact same boolit cast from straight ww's and pushed with 18-20 grains of 2400 to great effect on hogs. I've shot a few with it, including one intent on rearranging my anatomy who was dissuaded from this task at a range of 6 feet from my quaking boots.
20 grains is an awful STOUT load in a handgun, but the old classic of 18.5 grains is a killer with more manageable recoil.
For a neat medium power load, try 6.5 grains of Red Dot under this boolit. I get 850fps from my 5.5" blackhawk, and have killed prairie dogs at 50 yards with it,in front of witnesses.. (one of who saw me miss an antelope with the same gun at 50 yards this year.LOL)
I never could get either or my 45LC's to shoot this boolit well when pushed with Unique. It loves the 250gr catshooter/keith over 9 grains of unique though.

Thanks all for the suggestions.......I'm gonna load up a few of each, plus some more I've dug up, and go out back with the chrony & some plates tomorrow to see which I like. I really am fortunate to have a 100yd range about 25 paces from my back door, and being in the heart of Texas with the outlook of sunny skies & mid to upper 70*'s...........life is good........
