I really like FFF 777 for my Lyman 50 Cal. GPR
Getting a new Pietta 1858 (Steel Frame) and would like to use the 777 for that as well.
So anyone using the 777 ?
If so what charge ?

Brass or steel frame? Makes a difference. 777 needs to be reduced. You can start low and work up. In a brasser, I'd stay less than 20gr.

I have tried it in my 1858 piatta with a 30 gr charge spot on my flask. It gave more velocity than I get with either FFFG or Pyrodex p. I got good accuracy but it did not shoot to my sights like it does with 30 gr of FFFG GOEX. So I will stick with GOEX.

Used 24 gr. by vol with a Lee 200 Conical. Printed just above point of aim but the group was super tight! I love how it is so clean and lets me get more bang for the buck as it were. Now don't get me wrong, I've been shooting BP for well over four decades, but this 777 is one great BP sub. I use it in my revolvers, my Hawken 50, and in my 45-70 cartridges as well. BP IS hard to find where I live, thus I use 777. Good stuff!

I use 26gr by volume with Hornady round balls. Shoots very good but about 4" low.

Ditto on 777. I never opened my cans of Pyrodex since after using it. Been wanting to try in the 45-70.

Shot lubbed with 50/50 Alox?Beeswax, a homebrew BP lube, Lee Liquid Alox, it don't matter:smile:, Tripple Seven makes it's own light lube anyway. It's sugar based and not charcoal based, thus when it burns there is far less ash in the bore and it will deposit a mild amount of it's own "lube" in the bore. Kinda handy I think.

Just don't compress it and load up to the base of your bullet/wad combo. I use cardboard, thick plastic sheets, or whatever I think will make a good wad. And it does great with paper patched loads as well! It's a cool powder, and I've been shooting BP for well over four decades. I was worried about not being able to secure BP in my area. Well now I don't care if I do as long as I have 777!:D:D

I thought I might try it in my Ruger Old Army. Right now I am using 40 by volume of 3F. Can I use the same amount of 777?

777 is way hotter than Bp or Pyrodex. Where I used to use 70 gr. in a patched .50 cal Hawken, I'll use 55 gr. of 777 and get the same results. It's hot stuff! I would think that 40 gr. by vol. might be a real handful. I'd back off to 28~30 and see where you print with that. The ROA is super stout so there's no worries about a full tilt load though! It'll feel like you've got a mild .44 mag in your hand!
