I have a guide gun in 45-70 and have been using the rcbs 45-405gc. I have been thinking about a lighter boolit for whitetails. Took a look at the rcbs 45-300gc and it looks good. Any of you folks us it? how does it shoot?, what size does it cast? She shoots the Remmy 300 hp's pretty good, so I'm thinking the cast 300 should be good. Any feedback is welcome. I have H322, H335, and H4895.. Thanks in advance. Stu

I've been using the RCBS 45-300, and like it a lot. I don't see any need of a heavier boolit for deer / black bear around here, and the stray wild boar usually isn't that big either. Accuracy has been good in the 45-70's I've shot it in though I haven't loaded, or shot that caliber much recently. I've used it in a ported guide gun, a regular 1895, and a NEF Handi Rifle. I think mine drops boolits from w/w at about .360, and I know that I have sized them to .359.

Mine drops 'em at .459" cast from Ly#2 alloy, nominal (459) sizing die takes 'em down to .458". I drive 'em at 1789 fps with IMR4198 from my Marlin 1895CB.

My favorite cast boolit for my .45-70 which drops about 330 grains. It's the most accurate and if it don't giterdone then it's my fault.

Excellent bullet. I shoot it in several Winchesters. Don't have a Marlin. My mold drops at .459" with 12-14 BHN alloy. I push thru size and GC seat with Lee .459" that just touches the bands. They do very well in my guns that have a .458 - .459" groove. The lubed, GC'd, 12-14 BHN weight is 320 grs.

If you want a deer boolit for 45-70 look at the 330 gr HP in the group buys, if its still available.

Nice bullet, that RCBD 300gr, GC.
depending onyour need:
40-45 grains Reloader 7.. about 1900 fps and a pig punching slug it is!!
Another consideration:
Very quiet and deadly is 15 grains unique about 1300FPS , this bullet, and a Sharps with a 34" barrel....
Very deadly out to 50 yards and accurate too, normally shots touching at 30-50 yards.

That's my favorite deer bullet in 45/70. I lapped mine so it drops .461 in WW. Actual weight is 317 gr lubed and checked. Since you have H322, it's my favorite powder and I use 61.5 gr for 2200 FPS out of a 22" 1895 Marlin. Shots very flat for a 45/70. I've used that load in a Guide Gun and an XLR and it very accurate in all of them.

Glad you caught me on that typo! Of course I meant .460, and I have sized them to .459.

I have had better luck with PB boolits. For some reason, My Marlin Cowboy just doesn't like this 45-300 gas check boolit. It shoots ok with the lyman 457-191 but is much more accurate with a 340-350 grain boolit. The 45-325 U from RCBS is excellent.
