I use an RCBS ladle which is similar to the Lyman. I use it to cast everything. Years ago I got tired of old drippy and plugged to spout on my 10# pot then replaced the 20# pot with a replacement that had no spout.

I find I have fewer rejects by ladle casting. I will concede that bottom pouring is a little faster, but not by much.

I use an old Lyman ladle for almost all of my casting. I have the RCBS, but prefer the shorter handle and smaller dipper on the Lyman.

My Lee 6 cavity molds have been used with a Jim in Phoenix steel sprue plate, and its a huge improvement, IMO. Mine has a longer tang on it so it can be used in the conventional manner. I get much better bases and sprues with no smearing.

I have and use the Lyman ladle and have several 6 cavity molds. To answer your implied question I can fill all six cavities of my 98-120gr molds on one fill of the ladle. My 420gr 45-70 mold requires two fills of the ladle to fill the mold.

It all depends on the mold.

You can do it.

Heck I used to use the Lee ladle (which is more like a spoon) with my RD 265 6 banger.

I had to refill it every other bullet, but it was what I had and it worked.

If you are asking if the Lyman ladle will hold enough lead, I would say yes. I use it to fill a 6 cavity 3/4oz. jig mold, to make jigs for fishing.

My Lyman ladle holds just enough lead to pour my 6 cavity .358" 215 gr. SWC with a significant sprue. No problems.

just got to wonderig if the mold will remain hot enough while filling the mold.

capacity of ladle is not an issue. is the motion of fill the cavities one at a time with a ladle will cause some bullets not to form correctly.

thanks for the inputs.
