If you want a cheap and light load for a youth I would start even lower. Try starting at 50 or even 45gr and work up in 5gr increments until you find a satisfactory load.

Dittos " for what mooman76 said! What is weight of boolit? What gun and twist? When my daughter was young she shot 50 gr of FF Swiss and 223 gr. "belted" HP. Extremly mild recoil. You could even go to a patched roundball as at 70 or less they are very deadly on deer. Roundballs are cheap to make or buy too. 10 ga

Years ago I helped a friend work up a load in his Knight inline. We used a common black sabot for the 50 caliber bore, a 240 grain Hornady bulk .430 SWC (soft) and ended up at 90 grains Goex fffg. It would touch bullets at 100 yards. Loaded easily as the bullet was .430, not .432 and we very slightly lubed the sabot with BP lube and greasy fingers. He has taken numerous NC deer with that load, the longest at a lasered 185 yards.

Remember, you don't work up your '06 loads in pellet increments, don't work up loads for this kind of 444 that way either.

To save on recoil for the kid I'd suggest starting at 50 gr. FF and move up in the 5 gr. increments as per mooman76. I would also try the patched roundball starting at 50 gr. My daughter and I both have TC Firehawks and they are the 1/28 also. The patched roundball, .490 and pillowticking with beeswax/tallow lube, is a winner. It is our go to load for the informal "turkey shoot" club competitions around here. Almost no recoil but VERY accurate. For hunting the 245 and 70 grains will be lethal on deer well out to and past 100 yd. Go for the most accurate load he can shoot comfortably and a double lung shot. Best, 10
