Take a look at this video, particularly around 3.50 where is he is pointing out the bullets that he uses.

Let's see, 7mm in a .308................uh, either there's a sabot I'm not aware of or we need to invite this guy to join the forum so we can ALL learn from his experise!

Perhaps he wears two sets of ear muffs to drown out the rattling sound of the bullet bouncing down the barrel?

What scares me is that there are a number of these Utube "experts". Although I commend him for advertising the hobby of reloading, any mistake or ommision in these "really cool" videos could get someone hurt............

someone should post on his comments about his 7mm bullet in his 308 load data, unless he's shooting a 7-08. :)

Maybe he meant 7mm-08?

When does a person start thinking they are "advanced?" Is it right before they screw something up? I think most of us look at his set-up, listen to him talk and think "yeah i was there 10, 20, 30 years ago when i first started handloading."

I tend to find that I learn something new each day in this hobby and see that I will never stop learning. It's humbleing.

You can see in his load notes where it says "wrap with teflon tape to .308 diameter".

Okey, dokey!

He looks well organized and is in it for the savings. Good deal!

I too am into reloading for the savings, well I keep telling myself that.

If I truely were, I'd pick 2-3 calibers and load in BULK for just those and skip all the extra stuff I have for them.

Glad to see some younger people getting involved into the sport.

check out the reply! to the teflon tape patched bullet. he's using reduced loads for taking small game or teaching new shooters. Quite admirable.

someone needs to clue him in on cast boolits for that duty!

If you go read in the comments section, he answered a post asking about this, and he's paper-patching them.

Seems like a good guy starting out, but I don't like the style of camera work he does... Can't watch that for more than a few seconds...

The 100 gr Speer Plinker or any 110 ge 30 Carbine bullet would be better than those 7mm bullets in the 308.

So, yeah - I don't think he's going to load any of my ammo for me!!!!! Hope he doesn't blow himself up.... enjoy Mike. And to think he thought enough of himself and his ability to make a video!!!!

I didn't read the comments, guess I should have. Glad someone asked him about it.

I'd be interested in seeing some range reports on those teflon tape wrapped 7MMs shot through a .308 bore.

I have been paper patching since the 70s and I have never made a .284 bullet shoot in a .308 bore. That is .024 size to take up and I cant get that to work. Now .308s in a 8mm Mauser with a .318 bore works great.

Maybe if you used some of that artsy (and danged expensive) 60lb+ paper? 'Course thin cardboard might work too. I've done some esoteric (fancy word for crazy) loads in my younger days, but I don't think I'd try to make a sabot in that manner.

One of these days he'll buy a chronograph. After he shoots a hole in it and kills it, maybe it'll dawn on him to use the leftover tripod for the camera.

I liked the way he said, "Here's what I load. (Shows die boxes.) .45, 9mm, .308 and .223." Then he says, "Today I'll be loading 10mm." Hmmm... Didn't see the dies for that cartridge.

Stew

pdawg,
Yeah, I wondered about that. I've never done real paper-patching, but one of the better articles I read on it was by Mike Venturino way back in the 80s in American Rifleman (I think). He said two wraps was about all that was practical, so yes, that .024 sounds like a lot of distance to make up!
