Not sure if this is the right forum or not..?...but here goes...

I have a sizing die here that came with a used RCBS lube II luber/sizer. It says on the side of it..."RCBS .234 "...?? What in the world would THAT size be used for????

Possibly to size the nose of a bore riding 6mm?

AHA!!! After some searching I find that die is for a .243 WSSM caliber and its a nech sizing die ONLY. And I quote..
"This is an RCBS 243 WSSM caliber Neck Sizing Die only. A neck sizing die allows the reloader to properly size the case neck just enough to snuglly hold the bullet for optimal bullet tension, while maintaining the fire-formed dimension of the case body. Accuracy is increased when the case body closely fits into the chamber. By not overworking the brass, this RCBS Neck Sizing Die produces superior accuracy and extends the life of expensive cases. Neck sizing with this die can eliminate problems of excessive head space and align the bullt perfectly with the bore, resulting in better accuracy and longer case life. "

Fact can be stranger than fiction!!!

234 vs 243 Um, I think you got your numbers mixed up, either in the first post, or the second post.

Well, now I'm confused is it a sizeing die for a lube sizer? or a resizeing die for a rock chucker press and used to resize brass? If it truly is a neck sizer for brass how could one ever confuse it with a sizeing die for a lube sizer, as it would never come close to fitting into the RCBS LAMII? Dennis

A neck sizing die with a .234" inside diameter would be too small for any 22 cal. cartridge. It might work for neck sizing the 204 Ruger, but I do not have cartridge dimensions available for that particular cartridge. It would be too large for any of the 17 cal. cartridges.

If your .234" sizing die was installed in, or came as a spare for the LAM, my best guess is that it is for the 22 Savage Hi Power, most likely for one with a generous throat. The 22 Savage Hi Power uses .228" bullets.

Does the die have holes around it?

You're right! I was wrong. ( damm...first time this year too....LMAO) I cleaned that die off with acetone to get the grease off..and it reads "RCBS .284"....NOT....234

And 284 is a 7MM size!!
