View Full Version : What's a reasonable price for WW's?

I may have found a source of WW's from a Tire shop. I need 900# of WW's. They have 200#'s. Yesterday I received about 50#'s and gave the man $4.00 (all the cash I had) and promised to stop by to purchase the rest and bring more cash.

Now $4 for 50#'s is a steal and I don't want to gouge myself. I do intend to go back, but since it isn't free, what is a reasonable price?

I was thinking $10/50#'s seems reasonable to me ($0.20/#)

I don't know what the "going" rate is either, but I would pay .20/Lb. for good wheelweights. I got lucky and bought some alloy from an estate, and paid that for the ingots, but felt that all smelted the 1-15 alloy I bought was worth more.

I've been paying $35.00 a hundred and not feel bad.

Call your scrap dealer and see what he's paying per pound of WW's.

The local scrap yard here in PA is charging me .25 lb. I check with them every 4 months for WW. The last time they had 4 almost full 5 gal. buckets for me. They are clear of zinc and steel. I don't how long this is going to last for lead WW. Many states are trying to ban the lead WW.

I pay $50.00 for a five gallon bucket full. When I can get it.

If the ww are all useable, ven 50c/# isn't a bad deal in todays shrinking market. Lead WW will be gone soon, get em while you can.

I buy lots of lead when I find it for $0.50/lb. Right now I'm finding it for 70 cents.

I'm sure there are some free ones around, but it takes too much time from family/work to make it worth my time. I don't mind buying at decent rates.

I finally found a scrap hound here that will sell to me, he's getting them from out of town and I'm paying him 75c a weighed pound for mixed clip-on/stick-ons, less than two pounds of iron/zinc in a bucket so far. He could get $90/100lb for "dirty" lead scrap at one of the salvage yards in the 'big city' 70 miles away, but if he sells to me he saves fuel.

I've gotton 5 gal pails full for $35 each in the last three months.
I haven't had to pay more than that yet, But I'm sure I will soon,
with Metals and other commodies going up,
there may be a rush like back in '08.

It would be very prudent to stock up on lead. I recently purchased 1/2 ton of shot. That will last me until next year. I have also bought thousands of bullets as I do not have time to cast right now and I sense prices are due to climb.

WW ingots store easily and do not "rot". How can anyone ever have too much on hand?

Good point about lead not "rotting". It doesn't eat anything, either, and can be stored anywhere, even buried in the ground or stacked under the porch.
