I am just about ready to load up some 223 cast ammo for my ar for the first time. I was wondering if you guys might share some of your load data. I am shooting the saeco 60 grain mold (sized @ .225) out of a 16 inch barrel carbine length gas system. The ROT is 1:9 and the powders I have at my disposal are BLC-2, H335, Unique, and 2400. I would like to atleast have enough power for the carbine to function reliably. Thank you all for your time

Ian,
I cast, and I shoot AR's, but never shoot cast in AR's.
People have said it can be done.
The odds are stacked up against you, fast twist, gas tube just asking for a drop of moulten lead to plug it, and wanting enough pressure to work the action.
Good luck and get some good alloy for those bullets.
Mark

theres a couple dozen of us with a noe copy of that mould having a group buy now(see my sig) you are welcome to ask on there as you may get a faster and more detailed response.

Just use the search function "cast in AR15" or "AR15" there's lots of info.

I haven't used the powders you have listed however 18gr of H4895 cycles my mid-length AR-15 just fine, no leading using 55gr Bator boolits of WDWW sized .225 and lubed with FWFL.

I do know that you will not get enough gas pressure from Unique to cycle the action, 2400 is probably in the same boat. 335 and BLC-2 might work, H4895 works well because it can be reduced safely to 60% of max according to Hodgdon.

I have not tried for the AR-15, but I have for the AR-10. I had the devils own with 4895 cycling the action before loss of accuracy. Varget worked much better for me. I know we are talking about two different cartriges, but I hope I helped.

Will Imr 4895 work if I can't get h4895?

Check your load books, but to my recollection they are virtually identical.

Yes it will work fine. Start at 16 gr with the 60 gr bullet using a 1/3 - 1/2 dacron filler. Work up in .2 - .3 gr increments until functional reliability is attained then tweak the load from there.
