Picked these up in the desert near a military base , left one as is and thru the other three in the batch .... any how they measure 3/4 of an inch at the case mouth and the little one in the middle is my 38 special reload ...being the dummy I am ... are they fifty cal or so ?

Based on what I can see, they're 20MM Vulcan cases which should have electrically fired primers.

My question is why are you trying to pass off that center cartridge as a 38?

Yep. Look for a tiny little pinprick on the primer, it won't look like normal firing pin strike.

Thank you gentlemen for the information , always learning ....EOD3 , the 38 in the middle just happened to be close by , pulled it out of a box I had just finished reloading , the boolit is MIha's 125 gr hp at .358 and been using them in my 586 lately.
The same boolit is in my avatar sitting in a bunch of 9 mm's at .357, so far very nice.
And what you mention there JSnover is true .....if you click on the pic , and maybe if your browser allows click again to bring it closer , you can just make out the very small dent in the primer ... was not aware ....electrically charged primer ? . . interesting !
I can hear it now ! .... scenario: . .. Dude ! take those jumper cables and connect the ground clamp from the negative post to my grip frame , .. now take the positive cable and clamp from the post and hold it ! ...When I yell NOW! ... touch the hammer Dude ! ..[smilie=1::grin::groner:

Greetings
Main gun rounds for the m68 105mm gun used on the m60A1 tank are electrically fired.

Not all 20mm rounds are electronically fired. The old fashioned kind do still exist. The case profile doesn't look quite right though. That .38 shell sure has a big looking primer in it.

The electrically primed 20mms take a pretty potent charge. 320 VDC if I remember correctly. GE used some pretty sophisticated electronics to make that from 28 VDC aircraft power but it works well on the Cobras./beagle

I thought of accusing him of pawning off a 30 Carbine round but the rim looks just a little bit wide... Dono, perspective problem I guess. Digger sounds pretty sure of himself though.
