I have three 6.5x55 Swedish Mausers and my son has a 1903 Mannlicher Schoenauer in 6.5x54.

I would like to get a mold (gas check) for these two cartridges.

Any suggestions on specific ones?

Welcome, I have a cruise missle (lee) & both of BaBores moulds. If I had to pick only one it would be BaBores 140 gr. It has worked well in 3 of the 5 swedes I have, I just haven't tried it in the others. Slug your barrels for the correct size & if needed get a push through from Buckshot, he can make them to exactly what you need. I really need to slug the other two & see what i've got.

Lyman's 266469. Even better if you can find it with the Ideal logo, as it will more than likely cast fatter boolits. Generally, Swedes will require boolits in the .268" to 269" range, so be sure to slug the barrels.

When to comes to boolits, my 1901 M96 is torn between Alliant 2400 and IMR 4227, and prefers IMR 4350 when shooting jacketed. The rifle's only limiting factor to producing sub-MOA, 50-yard groups are my eyes and the issue sights.

Others will have different opinions and experiences.

I had been reading posts and threads about the "cruise missile" mold(s), and was somewhat surprised to see that they were dropping out of the mold with a .271" diameter. I will take your suggestion to get some slugs and size the barrel.

I will slug all three of the Swedes...now that I think of it, my son has a sporterized one as well, so that makes four.

As an aside, he also has a brand new Remington 673 that he really doesn't have the time of day for since he got the sporterized Swede and the 1903 Mannlicher Schoenauer. I guess it doesn't have the right flavor for him, as he likes older, traditional things.

Bowfin,

I was called a Traditionalist by a long ago mentor, and carry the moniker with pride. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that I was born 100-years too late.
