I was wondering if anyone here has experience with shooting cast bullets in the big 50? I have one and I'm curious to know what molds and loads people are using or if it's even feasible..

Thanks
Shawn

Take a walk over to Tom Bower's Board, www.subguns.com and click on message board. This is an NFA oriented (National Firearms Act - sort of an "all things registered") board). I have been there for years. great full atuo interest board.
There is a reloading section there. Pose that question and I'll bet there are plenty of people that do.

There you go, casting for it is about the only way to make that caliber bearable. LOL. I own a BlueGrass Armory single shot, so this is experience talking not BS.

I would like to see what others say about this as well. I own a custom built Mcmillan 50bmg and would be interested in trying some cast bullets in it.

Check the group buy archives. I know they ran a 700gr boolit last year just for this cartridge.

Ran an 850gr group buy awhile back (3 cav-sorry, all gone). Will group about .8"@ 100 yds going 2,200fps. Above that groups open rapidly. This is in an AR50 with a generous throat. Other guns may do much better. I used 4895 and 5010.
If enough demand, Swede might do a small group buy for everyone. I had to cut a slot in the front of my Lyman 450 and shorten up the ram, so be able to size those long bullets. Will do more testing when it gets warmer.
Oh, the CBE 950gr boolit did very well also, drawback, its a single cavity.
You will need at least a 20 lb pot for the 3 cav., and a good stock of metal.

IIRC, Ranger Rick bought one of the moulds. You might contact him and see what he has.

So it looks like the best way to get a good mold for one of these monsters is a group buy huh?
What loads are some of you guys using with that you got?

Full auto or not, there are plenty of 50 bmg shooters there. There is also a "non-NFA" board for all the other stuff like revolvers, pistols, rifles, shotguns, etc. It is a mixed bag for the reloaders. People like me that shoot full auto like the reloading section because it is all connected.
Go ahead and give it a shout.
