I found a round ball mold at a local gun shop yesterday, tucked far back and gathering dust in its box. It is a single cavity Lyman and is stamped .440
Could I use this for my 44 special? I would run it through my .432 push through die (430 from Lee which I honed out to fit my cylinder throats exactly), tumble lube them and have a decent, plinking projectile?
Any advice / do's/don't's?

Since there are no lube grooves to crush, it would probably push thru if softer enough. Lube it well. There is a .433 Round ball mould available also. If the .440 is too big, maybe sell that and get a .433. I have a .429 I use in my .44's as a powder puff load.
Round ball in guns are pleasant to shoot. Even the guys that shoot the big 500 S&W's can load a .503 or .505 round ball that is available for fun. We don't always have to shoot earth shattering loads ....

It will work. Might want to check Beagle's article on loading RB's. It is one of the best on the subject that I have seen.
