I think I have tried almost everything I can think of trying to make H-4895 work with the lyman 311466. My best group at 100yards was around 2 1/2 inches. Ihave tried different powder loads, different seating depths, filler or no, different cases, different neck thicknesses, different primers, different crimps and different lubes. Maybe my AR-10 just doesnt like this boolit? Next up is the lyman 170gr. FP. I dont remember the number. I was really hoping to make the 311466 work. I did try some RL-19. Never came close to the H-4895 load.

If going to a slower burning powder opened the groups up, I would try somethng just a little faster like Reloader 7, and see how that works. The new Lyman manual lists Rx7 as being the "accuracy powder behind the Lee 150 fn. I'm not sure about that powder, and your AR-10 though so hopefully those more knowledgable than I will chime in....... Well, out to my warm shop to lube, and size some more bullets I guess.

Three questions;

What range of powder sharges with 4895?

What "filler"?

What is the twist of the ARs barrel?

Larry Gibson

Make it four questions;

Was the GC below the case neck?

1) 25.0 - 33.0 gr H-4895
2) dacron from .4 to 1.8 gr
3) stainless bull fluted 1/10 twist
4) yes, just barely. the top of the gas check was still in the neck, but that's it. I could not seat any farther out without having chambering issues.

Thanks, larry.

I simply can't get H4895 to work in anything, accuracy wise. I've tried:

Ar15 match bullets and match barrel (kreiger) - poor accuracy
1903A3 match bullets - poor accuracy
M1 Garand Match bullets - poor accuracy
1903A3 cast - poor accuracy
M1 cast - poor accuracy

I'm just giving up on it. I have better results with Varget.

Sme people report they get better results not filling all the grooves on Loverin types. Of course fit can make a huge difference. Have you tried sizing slightly larger or as cast?
