Hi

I am presently liquifying some of my general interest shooting books and want to purchase cast related matter.

Of course the range in New Zealand is limited. Did I say limited? Sorry, I meant nil.

I am open to some guiding by you learned folk on the best/better cast bullet books available in the US and from whence to source them.

Veral Smith's book.

Richard Lee's latest has valuable info on working up loads and reduced loads for cast boolits and the effects of pressures with different powders.

Hi Jeff,
As a good general reference, the Lyman Cast Bullet Manual will provide you with a lot of great information on moulds, lead alloys, and loading information. It also has ballistics tables for their cast rifle bullets. The Lyman Pistol and Revolver Manual is useful if you need ballistics tables for cast pistol bullets.

Good sources for these manuals are www.midsouthshooterssupply.com and www.midwayusa.com.

Also, you may want to check ebay for out-of-print manuals from RCBS, the National Rifle association, and Wolfe Publishing. Wolfe publishes the Handloader and Rifle magazines, and several years ago they published collections of cast bullet articles from their magazines. These collections are excellent.

I hope this helps.

Lyman's book is good, but pay no attention to the fast powder rifle loads..

I never did know what's up with that? Can anybody explain that?

All of the suggestions are good. Might also suggest that you get on E-Bay, and see if you can find a deal on some of the older Lyman manuals. They have a lot of excellent data. The RCBS Cast manual is also excellent, and Smiths book is just plain outstanding. Good luck!

I was going to post the Wolf Publishing link but R.M. beat me to it. At $25.00 for all four books its a tremendous deal. They also have every single issue of the magazine on DVD up through December 2005. Even though I have the entire magazine collection I got the DVD's.

In addition, here are some notes on bullet casting.

Jeff, the Wolf Publishing CD is very good. If you take it to a copy center they can print it on a high speed printer, and then bind it for you also. It's much easier to read this way...Ray

TEAM! Many thanks. :drinks:

I have the Lyman book and agree about the fast powders.

Have read Veral's book and thought it very informative. I will source a copy.

CD's sound VERY good.

Well done.

Jeff,

A source downunder for shooting related books is Peter Moncrieff.

http://www.bundukibooks.com

He is in Melbourne and imports many of the shooting related books from around the world. I have dealt with him many times and always a good service.

Some years back I did manage to find and buy a second copy of the NRA "Cast Bullets" by Col. E. H. Harrison. They are good books but I find some of the information can get very technical (a little over my head). Good articles on various effects tin and antinmony have on the hardness (inc. charts) Plus a section on Paper patching .30 cal boolits.
