I just bought the ugliest rifle in north texas and I need some help in removing a Herters muzzle brake.
Can anyone describe how this thing detaches from the barrel? It's a Winchester model 100 chambered for .308 win. Apparently someone was very sensitive to recoil and had this monstrosity installed. If I carried the rifle as is into the woods the deer would all die laughing.

thanks fellers! W. Mitty

No, No, No!

According to George Herter, that muzzle break is the finest, most accurate, quietest, recoil reducing muzzle break money can (could) buy.

Knowing Herters products, I'm sure there is a way it can be done without damaging the gun. If you have a digital camera, maybe you could post a picture so we could all admire it and somebody might be able to figure out how it's removed. We don't want you bagging deer by laughing them to death!

Look at it this way; if they die laughing, you'll save ammo.:kidding:

I finally got the monstrosity off using the universal Key. Now I have a barrel with threads on the last 1/2". Well, maybe the deer won't see these and know what was on the muzzle.
