Just an Idea! can a 20 ga single shot shotgun barrel be relined for a 50 cal muzzle loader? who or how could you reline the bbl? I know that they make inserts to shoot 410 ga in 12 ga barrels, or 20 ga barrels. why not a insert for 50 cal M/L?

The liner for a 50 caliber come in 11/16" diameter ( .687"). The chamber on the 20 gauge is .699" and .620" for the bore. There would not be enough to form the rim. I might be able to get an oversize liner that could be machined down, or turn a full barrel blank down. There may not be enough wall thickness to thread a breach plug to the liner unless it is a custom very fine thread.

Thanks. I will have to give that some thought. What would be a rough estimate of cost for such a project?

Not exactly a reline ing

But a guy at the gunclub has converted several single shot and SXS 12 and 20 Gau shotguns to Muzzel loaders

He cuts the barrel(s) off
He then trues up the inside and turns a Muzzel loader barrel to be a press fit to the inside of the shotgun barrel
He makes a breach plug that takes 209 primers

I know he uses some sort of epoxy to hold the 2 togeather along with a set screw

No clue as to how much a smith would charge

But I know he told me it took a lot of work to get the double 45 cal ML regulated

So I bet a single shot would be a lot cheaper and easyer

BTW he atachs the ram rod to the side of the barrel
IMO probely easyest way

It would be easier to cut the barrel off and thread the stub for a new barrel. Several years ago I made a bunch of H&R shotgun into 54 cal ML using the 209 primer. Then Idaho changed the law for black powder season and I didn't do any more.
