Yesterday, my darling, loving, beautiful wife gave me a Rock River 22 inch bull barrel AR-10 in 308 Winchester and a Lupy 4.5-14x50 Varmint reticle with quick detatch rings for Christmas. (I thought I got jipped with those cupons). Anyway, I wanna shoot cast in it. I am looking at maybe a 180 - 200 grain round nose mold around 1800 fps. Anyone do this? Will the AR-10 cycle reliably with cast pressures? Thanks to all who reply.

Dont worry, she only bought it for me so she can shoot it.

OK! That makes me feel better. I am going to try that one tonight.

On a serious note. I am curious about the cast in the ar10

90 people viewed this and NO ONE has any thoughts on cast for the AR? Well, I guess someone has to be first. Iwill report back soon.

It's not a .308, but I shoot nothing but cast in my son's 9mm AR15 and it works great.

Don't have an AR10 but do have an AR15, Rock River, with 24" heavy 1 in 12 twist just for shooting cast, it works!!!

Someone should chine in that shoots a cast in there AR10

I've had good luck in my ar-15 5.56 with H4895, I would start there with 60% max load and work up if needed. I found my AR-15 cycles fine with just a bit more than 60% load.

My brother-in-law has a DPS in 308 and shoots 150gr in it. It turned out to be the most accurate than the heavier boolits. But that's his AR. Yours might shoot better with the heavys.

Not an exact match of equipment but I believe it'll translate over well and safely.

200 gr (Lyman 311299) poured from ww+1%SN, with gas check. .30-06 in a Garand, It took 29gr of powder to properly operate. To stay away from the edge I began sticking with 31.0 gr of H4895. 1790 to 1810 fps. 2 3/4" group at 100 yd. No slippage, no leading. It's the baby bear's porridge. Start with this. Bet it works. Lemme know.

I'm following this thread with great interest since my son has been thinking about a 308 gas gun, and is very curious about shooting cast in it. ( perhaps because I have lots of cast .30 cal boolits around?) :D

If we ever split, Im keeping the AR-10. And the Double set trigger mauser, and the Ruger redhawk 44 mag, and the browning citori, and the pre-64 winchester she bought me.

Does she have an older sister?

Or could you just send a mass mailing email to all the rest of us if you ever split so that we can all start forming a line?

Awesome. Must be from the same stock as my wife. I got a mint condition 1903 manufacture Winchester model 1897 solid frame 32" full choke 12G for Christmas and a darn close to new Glock 19 for my birthday 10 days later.

If you read the whole article, at the bottom is a test that included a Armilite AR-10 using cast at 2100fps. Same article is in Castpics. It'll give you a starting point anyway ...Geo
