A very, very, sad day: 'Dick Winters, the former World War II commander whose war story was told in the book and miniseries “Band of Brothers,” has died.'

Never would have know of him if not for the movie. The stuff he pulled out of the air the first few weeks in Normandy were truly excellent. At least as depicted in the movie.
Sad to see those old vetrans go. Sadder still to see the new ones we are making today.
Just got some pictures from my grandson serving in Iraq. He looks so young sitting in the turret with his M249.

They're still making them like that these days, you just don't hear about them. Maybe we will later? Regardless, a fine man has gone to his reward.

Very sad news. My wife got me his autobiography for Christmas, just finished reading it. A real leader and one hell of an American. May he rest in peace.

Ah Damn.

Rest in peace Dick. Lord we need me like him today more than ever. They sacrificed everything for this generation and look what has been done with it.

Read his book, in 2009 visited the parachute landing areas, including where Winters landed
just outside Mare St. Eglese plus the site where he and his team took out the 4 artillery
piece on D Day. What a hero and what a group of real men. We owe them.

Rest in peace, sir. Well done!
