Does anyone have or know of a plain base cast blt. of someplace between .313-.314 for the Mosin? Also does anyone have a source for surplus .310-311 J blts?
Thanks in advance to any/all who answer?

I haven't cast for theRussian yet, but if you are looking for cheap jacketed bullets we get the Ax bullets in australia and they are ok and cheap. They come from Serbia or somewhere, no doubt they wouldbe available there also. I have a Lee mould for mine but it's a gascheck Good looking boolit thought. Mick.

Mick, Do you have a source of supply for those Ax blts in the states? Couldn't find squat of information on Ax on Google or Yahoo. Thanks for the quick reply Mick, always good to talk with an Ausue. (Never met one I didn't like).:coffee:

2-3 years ago there was a group buy on here for a "Fat 30 TL" bullet, plain based with Lee-style minigrooves for tumble lubing. I've got one of those and have just started experimenting with the boolits. Maybe somebody out there's got one you could talk them out of, but I want to hang onto mine.

Cheapest J bullets in 303 diameter are usually either blems from Lock Stock and Barrel (they are out right now), Privi bullets from Graf's or I know another fellow from another board who has a few Japanese machine guns to feed and he buys the cheapest 7.62x54R ammo he can find and pulls the bullets. If I were in the market for a lot of cheap 7.62x54R for bullet donars I'd check with Aim, Century etc and see if they have any lots of that ammo that they can't sell due to duds corrosion etc. I know that certain lots of the 8mm Turk ammo was sold very cheap under the pretense that the ammo was only good for recovering the bullets.

I've met a guy who buys surplus 7.62x54 ammo just to get the bullets, and who sometimes salvages the powder. In bulk, the ammo is about 10 cents a round from the mail order houses.

Have you slugged your bore ? As far as J boolits a cheap 150gr. 308 may work well even in a .310 or .311 bore-----Js are more forgiving----not true of lead---Mag

Hang on, Hornady make a SP 123Gn 311 bullet, lots of guys here use it, works ok in 30cals also, My mate buys them bulk and shoots them through a 3006 ruger that I sold him. Nothing much gets past him, he's pretty deadly with it. Mick.

1Shirt,
There's a buy going on now in the Group Buy forum for a six holer 311407 that might fit your requirement. Members have reported good results in Mosins with this design.

Regards,
BorderBrewer

Just realized that one uses a Gas Check, but it could probably be modified to PB.

1Shirt,

I can help you eliminate one mold. I have a number of different Mosins, and tried an old single cavity 311241 which casts a little fat, but it isn't fat enough for my collection of old Russian soldiers, or their Finnish cousins.

Trapshooter, Have a 311241 that casts .3125, and shoots fair w/gas check. Just thinking that there might be a .313/3l4 PB that someone out there has experiance with.
