I have a box of cast boolits I bought at least two wives ago. They were probably bought about early to mid 90's. I'm worried that the lube will have grit embedded into it and I don't really want to load/shoot these as they are now. I'm thinking of putting these into my oven and melting the lube out so I can lube them fresh. The other option would be to melt these boolits down again and start over. Am I worried about nothing? What do you all recommend?

Me, I would melt 'em down and start over. I wouldn't want to chance scratching up the bore. But, that's just me.

If you want to shoot them boil them in water will remove lube and any thing else. Now just relube and good to go.

That is the good thing about Boolits vs Wives. Boolits are there when you want them if they don't workout well you can remould them.

Jeff:
Welcome Aboard.
As for the boolits, If they were in a sealed container or a baggi with the top sealed, there would be no reason that dirt and grit would ever have reached them. If they were exposed to the elements, by all means clean and relube.

Remelt, they make great flux.

Were they in a closed container?? If soo they are fine. That is uless the lube itself has somehow deteriorated.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Yes, these boolits have been stored in an open box, so the boolits have been exposed to dust and grit. That's my concern. Someone suggested using these boolits for alloying, that's what was thinking too. That's probably the easiest and most useful thing to do. Can I just smelt them down lube and all? I assume the lube will just burn off...

They will smoke a bit but lubed boolits work great to flux your melt. Thats what happens to so my rejects.

When I make boolits and don't like their preformance they just go back into the pot. My homemade lube works better as a flux than as a lube anyway.

Use them to firelap an old, dark-bored milsurp.
