Remember it's still a ML and you're shooting ML velocity. I'd go to a heavier boolit. Remember that 180 is about the same as a .50 patched RB but has a slight edge in efficiency down range but is still no where near what a heavier bullet will do. That lighter bullet stuff is what has just about killed the 45 as an inline ML. You should just about duplicate a 45-70 with lighter boolits for real ML power, at least a 250 gr boolit and 70 to 85 gr of powder. If you're shootin real BP and she aint rockin you a bit then you aint got enough power. If all you're gonna do is punch paper you're OK. OH yeah, I shot patched RB a lot. Killed a bunch of deer with it too. However I limit the range to an ethical 85 yds. or less and my hunting load is 110 gr. FF Swiss and 179gr rb with patch. I also have a custon 45 smokeless ML and I shoot a 195 gr barnes boolit about 2400 fps. not a 180 gr. J'ed pistol bullet at 1700 fps. With that .45 shooting sabots and 180 gr boolits you are about duplicating really hot .10mm or .40 mag handgun stuff and I wouldnt use that on 100 yd. shots at deer. You have a ML shooting BP or a sub so it's heavier bullets for longer wound channels. 10 ga
