WA state outlaws lead wheel weights.

Saw on the net today, that as of January 1st the use of lead wheel weights will be illegal. Wonder if that means we all have to go in and have them changed. I'll have to stop by the local tire shop and see if they'll keep some lead for me.

No, the WSP will NOT be writing tickets for the lead WW on your rig..... [smilie=w:
In reality, only non-PB weights will be used or sold from tire shops now.
They will be removing old lead WW as new or re-balanced tires are mounted.
If you have tire store contacts, this will be a small window where the last of the lead WW will be harvested. Most big tire chains are already saying "NO" to lead scroungers.
My last visit to a Mom & Pop tire store got me 200 lbs gross, and 50-60 lbs of steel and zinc weights to dispose of :violin:

And if it's like in California, tire stores can be inspected and fined if (presumable new) lead WWs are even found. OTOH, I've seen a lot of nice NEW WWs at the scrapyard—they sure are more pleasant to smelt.

I probably have a lifetime supply of lead.
But -- The window for getting the WW that are taken off is probably as much as a year or two.
The tire shops can not use the excuse that the WW suppliers are recycling them.
When we go in to buy them we can use the arguement that they are illegal.
A man that doesn't have a good stash better get off his duff and get some.
The trend here is that the older I get the less I shoot. Is that a good thing?
Smaller calibers and boolits take less lead.
One thing does bother me and that is the new casters will suffer less supply and higher prices. When I croak my stash of lead should supply several new casters.
I just hope that I live long enough to see something that the Liberal Democrats really need -- that is made by a Conservative Republican -- that can be sold for several thousand percent profit. Such as Whisky or Tobacco. The liberals already have Oil and Jewelery covered.
