I've been using 2 50gr Pyrodex pellets under my sabotted 405gr boolit in my 50 cal CVA rifle.
I'm switching to Pyrodex powder, and a 425gr boolit. The powder should allow me to work up a load for accuracy. Not that I intend to load up to max, but would max still be 150gr Pyrodex with the 425gr boolit? I was thinking I may have to go over 100 gr in order to stabilize the heavier boolit.
Thanks
Randy

Not for sure on the safe part but I don't really see it being a problem but if you get anywhere near 150gr you'll just be waisting powder. Very heavy loads get real inefficiant. You really shouldn't need to get all that heavy of a load to find accuracy even for that heavy. I was shooting 70-80 gr in my 58 with a 510gr boolit.

Hodgdon will tell you that you use LESS loose powder, i.e., Pyrodex RS, than Pyrodex in pellet form. I agree wholeheartedly, but I can't explain why that is so (pressure is what I'd guess). If it were my inline (I do own one), I'd start with 70gr. [loose] Pyro. RS and work up to maybe 100gr. checking for accuracy at the distance you're typically going to shoot at. If you own or can borrow a chronograph, I think you'll find it most enlighening when you test those loads.

If you are going for an accurate load, you will want loose powder to adjust 5 grains at a time. Pellets wont get you where you want to be.

several years ago, I got an inline.
Traditions cheepy, but rated for 150gr.
so I tried it. 3 pellets, 410gr boolit. Accurate? not even the broadside from inside the barn.
boolit struck the ground at about 30 yards, 4 yards right of POA. I was aiming and sighted in for about 80 paces.
sure hurt my shoulder also. Gun held fine. and now digests 100gr with 350-450 boolits just fine.
I have stopped using Pellets after having many misfires with them.
I now call Pyrodex Pellets JUNK!
YMMV

Nanuk, clean your breech plugs flash channel out with a 3mm drill bit. Run it by hand and just cut the carbon out of it. Most likely clogged up and limiting the primers flash from getting to the pellet.
