A freind that lets me use his mill and lath was asking me a few questions tonight about me supplying him with some Boolits for a project he is starting

He just bought a used Savage 458 WM barrel
But the chamber was abused , now has a nick or scratch in the chamber

But his idea was to thread the chamber end for a breach plug
And make up a stock to hold a ram rod to one side

As I have never messed around with a White style muzzle loader
I have to ask , see any major problems ?

I figured I could just size a few 400 or 450 gr Flat nosed , plain base boolits to just smaller than bore dia to start

johnch,

I have a couple of molds that I have used for my White .451's.

I had a Lyman 457121, 475 grains. I have a Lyman 457193, 405 grains. And another 1 I can't put my eyes on right now.......... Yes they need to be sized, I use a .452 sizer, the bullets bareley engrave at loading for me.

Jump on over to "Dougs Message Boards". That is the premier site for learning about and info on CF to ML conversions. You can send it to SMI and they will do all the smith work, they did a 45-70 Encore conversion to 45 ML for me.

I have a .458 Green Mountain barrel on a Renegade. I use a Lee 459-405-HB ( I think that is the number) and what I do is size them to .451 then Paper patch them and size them again to .451. This will give a slip fit. The paper will swell a bit when it comes out of the sizer. They will be tight enough that they will not slide away from the powder. They are also very accurate. Ron

Idahoron do you think that your paperpatched bullets would work in a White muzzleloader with a 1 in 24 twist?Ripshod
