Hi Fellas, I need to find some conical boolits to test in my revolver. Anybody know a reliable source for properly sized boolits?

I am using a Lyman .452 200 gr. wadcutter that drops .454. I cast it from 20 or 30:1 alloy and pan lube it. The softer alloy works better. Very accurate and potent when set over 30 to 33 grain of 2Fg GOEX. I tried the Lee mould for the Old Army and found it somewhat short of useful.

I believe Springfield Slim on this forum makes a couple of Big Lube designs that work well in the ROA.

I cast mine from a Lee mold made for the purpose, IIRC it is a 200gr conical.
From a 2-cavity mold, you can cast 'em faster than you can load and shoot 'em.

Lee stock number is 90384. It's a double cavity mold and it's 220 gr RN, not 200.

Thank you very much gentlemen. Would anyone care to offer a good hunting BHN for the ROA?

9BHN Was the hardest that I was able to get good accuracy out of my ROA with using the Lee boolit. I have used DD boolits cast of WW also, but the hogs in Hawaii fall down just as well with .457" balls so that is what I use now.

IIRC George Nonte even used Lyman #454424 SWC's sized appropriately for his cap and ball revolvers. IF you could get one of the variations to shoot well, it would certainly do the job.

Generally, with revolvers softer is better. Especially with conicals since the velocity will be well under 1000 fps, there isn't going to be a lot of deformation of the bullet.

I have a Uberti '58 Remington that won't shave a ball smaller than .457" on seating, and it hits way low. I have both 454424 and 452424 moulds. I really should run a batch while I have my furnace full of the soft stuff and see how they do.

I have the smaller version of the Lee conical, and it shoots fairly well in my Pietta's, but not quite as well as RB. I have the 130 gr. .375 on order from Lee right now to try in my .36's.:hijack:

Thanks guys, I think I'll give the 90384 a chance. I can always launch them with a 1911 [smilie=w:

One of the problems I had locating this mold was that nearly everyone refers to it as a 44 Cal bullet but the actual size is suitable for the 45. Go figure.
