Hello all! Has anyone out there found a cast boolit that works in this caliber and twist? Lee has a couple of designs but they did not work well in my .50 caliber gun with the same twist So I decided to ask for advice before buying and trying. Thanks

I am having good luck with my .451 1-28 twist hawken. I am using a Paper patched Lee improved Minie. I size them to .446 wrap them and size them again to .446. They shoot great. Ron

Greetings
And just for a bunch of fun do not overlook the lowly Round Ball. They shoot surprising well in fast twist barrels. But if you cast real bad RBīs the imperfections will be very evident due to the fast spin.

Some have found that an over powder wad of some sort helps improve you shooting dramatically when they have trouble shooting well, especially in those tight twist BP guns.

I have a friend that was having some problems with his .50 cal 1 X 28 twist shooting well with the normal high priced bullets that the big box stores sell at a outrages pricing I might add. So I sized down some .460350 RD boolits cast at 30/1. Did it in two steps lubed them with some moose snot and ran through a .454 sizer then through a .451 sizer. He was shooting the Black horn powder and a black sabot don't know the brand but they shot very well at 100 yards. 1.5 to 2" groups. More than good enough to go deer hunting and he's happy I would like to see him work with it some more I think that it could be made to shoot better but probably will never happen.

I use the Lee 250 grain R.E.A.L. boolit (cast from pure lead) over 70 grains of FFg Goex in my 1-28 twist .45 caliber rifle with excellent accuracy. I do place either 2 felt wads or a .45 Colt case full of Cream of Wheat on top of the powder charge and wipe the bore with a damp patch after each shot. Without wads or filler accuracy is so-so.

I want to thank everybody for the great responses. But in hindsight I should have waited until spring to ask because now between the snow and work I will be like a kid waiting for christmas to get out and try these ideas!
