I have 2 rifles, one in .25-20 the other in .32-20 (a 92 Win and a 94 Marlin Safety).

Who's good at relining?

I too have a 32-20 that could use a lining. I would be interested in hearing as well.

KCSO can do it and he does good work at reasonable prices, when he isn't too busy chasing the bad guys.

John Taylor does a beautiful job of relining barrels. There is no visible seam. His email is (from memory) johntaylor@taylormachine.com . I hope this address is correct.

I've got a couple that need it too. One each 25-20 and 32-20. Group buy? Regards, Woody

Another guy in the business is Randall Redman. I had a 73 Winchester .44 relined, and the job was well done, but the groove diameter - which he advertised to be .428" - turned out to be .431", and cartridges loaded with boolits of that diameter won't chamber. I guess this was pretty typical of the originals, but not what I wanted or he advertised.

I am sorry that the litle grey cells were not working well yesterday. Must be a function of age. I looked Johns address up and it is john@johntaylormachine.com .

I'll second John Taylor Machine. He did a Model 92 rifle for me in .32-20 about two years ago. You can't even see the seam at the muzzle. The rifle shoots great now.

Cost was a little over $200 if I recall correctly. His turn around was pretty quick to. Doubtless there are others who can do the same work, but my experience is with him.

Andy Horvath did my Marlin 1889 32-20 just this year, to my specifications. It shoots great.:-D No web site and I don't remember his number, but its A/C 440- in LaGrange Ohio.

I had Randall Redman reline several .25 caliber barrels and he rechambered one to .25-20WCF. He relined and rechambered another to .32-20 WCF. All these were well done, and have given very good accuracy. You can't see the line between the liner and the old barrel at the muzzle.

try yourgunsmith.com
relined my M92 SRC in 25-20 and did a great job with Redman's liner for $150 with a three week turnaround. Can't see the liner at the muzzle.

Question, when getting relining done for a 32-20 lo-wall can you specify a slightly faster twist than the standard 1x20"? I've a mind to try heavier bullets 130grs or so. And do you have to send both the receiver along with the bbl?. I've got a 25-20 single shot cartridge lo-wall that I'd like to get relined. The bore on this bbl is toast. Thanks, Frank

Frank46,

You'd have to check with the liner maker, but I would bet that you're unlikely to get a custom twist from the larger makers. If you can find somebody who does rebores, you should be able to bring your .25-20SS up to .32-20 and since rebores are not subject to production setups, some variation of the twist should be more feasible.

I just tried to access the Hunter's life forum to find the info, but that forum is down again.
There is a new shop in Arizona, cannot remember town, but the name was Dan or Bill, I believe.
He re bores barrels, a friend had 2 barrels done and said the work was excellent, just the dimensions requested.
One was a .22-30 to .50 Alaskan.
Llano John, who is on several forums, has been to the shop in Arizona.
I believe a rebore is $200.
Quick update; Dan Pederson, Classic Barrel & Gunworks.

Bent Ramrod, many thanks, I had not thought about getting it rebored. frank

I'd go for a group buy on 25/20 liners, I had a martini with express sights that is now a crusty bore .360 something or other that would make a sweet 25/20.

T.J.'s has the 25-20 liner with a 1 in 14" twist and the 32-20 with a 1 in 16" twist. These are hammer forged liners that are sold at $3.45 per inch. Redman liners and T.J.'s liners are both made from 4130 aircraft steel tube. The difference is one is button rifled and the other hammer forged. The hammer forged barrels are work hardened a little and are smoother than a button rifled barrel.
John King just did an article in Guns Magazine about relining a barrel. He and I both use T.J.'s liners. You can reach T.J.'s at 859-635-5560.

Hey, John, welcome aboard. Hope you have time to stop in regular. I'm sure you'd enjoy it and it's always nice to have expertise on tap. That's good info on the hammer-forged liners. Thanks for touching base.
