What in the world does 243/6mm shooters do for molds nowadays ???

The choices are very limited & 90day wait times:holysheep ,I thought 243/6mm was as popular as 30 caliber :?: maybe not apperently :killingpc

Anyways I did order some 245496 from Bullshop , until my 245496 arrives!!

Scarce as hens teeth, and checks are a problem as well. Have 245965, 85 gr, and 245498 90+ gr lyman singles, and an 85 gr. Saeco douoble. 85 grainers shoot well in my 243's, but the 90 is to long. Watch e-bay and you may be able to pick up one occaisionaly.

Check BRP products page, and here's a thread about a group buy in the making: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=98370 Hornady checks can be found and Gator's are available from time to time.

I bought a Freechex in 6mm from Ebay a while back so I was no longer out of checks. Works pretty well.

There are a number of heavier molds available for the 6mm, but not very many lighter ones. The 245496 is probably the most common Lyman mold followed by the heavier 245498. The 245497 is just a heavier version of the 245496. Digging around and looking for used ones is about all you can do unless a group buy comes up. I currently have at least one of each of the Lyman molds plus the 244203 plain base and a 245499. Along with an RCBS 95 gr SP and their 100 gr FN that is still available from the "special order" mold list. Plus the MX2-243, and an NEI 100 gr double cavity.

The only one I haven't tried is the Saeco. Plus BRP has a 100 grain offering I think, and the one madsenshooter listed will be available soon as well I suppose. Those and the 2 RCBS ones are about the only currently made ones I think. I wouldn't test my luck with NEI currently.

Isn't it strange how things have turned around. These days it is easier to find molds, and gas checks for the 6.5, .22, and 25 calibers than it is for the .243, and .270, and yet those calibers have better sales.

Go for the RCBS and you will not be disappointed.

Was happy with my Saeco 87 grain bullet. Then bought the new Lyman 4th handbook which list B.C. of bullets. List the 87 grain Saeco as a BC: .159 while the RCBS 95 grain list at BC: .258. Not sure how accurate those numbers are. Sure makes the RCBS bullet look good though. Other 6mm mould I have is the Lyman Loverin style 84 grain #245496. Buffaloarms dot com still carries this mould. Oddly the new Lyman book listed the RCBS and Saeco but not the Lyman bullet. Go figure. They don’t list any 6mm on there web site either. Both the Buffalo Arms Lyman and Saeco moulds drop the most perfect little boolits you could hope for. I’ll chalk some of that up to luck. 6mm boolits IMHO are a joy to make. Unlike the little 22 caliber pills which are a bit on the tiny and delicate side. Makes me wish I had a small case 6mm like 6 x 45 or 6mm BR just to shoot cast in. However the 243 AI seams to do just fine.

GP--having the same problem. I've seen a couple on fleebay from time to time, but they seem to get bid right into orbit every time. My solution is to just cut my own for PP'ing until something drops into my lap that won't kill my wallet.
