I would like to request some current information on an early fall bear hunt I want to take to Maine next year.

Ideally, I would like a referral from several hunters or individuals having first hand knowledge of a specific bear guide and lodging operation offering a reasonable chance of success at a fair price. I want to take my Occumpaugh .356 marlin CB gun and a .54 RB flint gun.

I would like to actually talk to members here before making contact with the outfitter. Please PM me if you can help specifically, or post for all to see if you have general information. Thanks, BvT

Over on the Graybeard forum there is a guy named Pete of Wild Country Outfitters. His handle there is "Wild Country". Seems that those who have hunted with him like how they've been treated and have excellent opportunites for some good bears.

My brother booked a Maine bear hunt through Cabelas. Price was reasonable, outfitter was great according to him. Think it was called OMM outfitters if you want to google it. Don't think the bears up there get to big from what I have seen, (only three on the ground) but taste good!

Do you want to Hunt in August/ Sept over Bait?
or Hound dog season?

or Oct during Regular Rifle/Pistol/ Shotgun/Muzzleoader Season where you can take a Deer also?

or do you want to apply for a Moose Permit and hunt bear at the same time if you get selected for a Moose Tag?

Do you want to hunt Mountions in Western Maine or Large Swamps, Tree Plantations up in the County ( Aroostock) or Coastal Blueberry Barrens down east.

Lots of different Opportunity.

Some Guides have Camps, Some do tents, some, have American Plans with Meals and all. Some will just drop you off in the woods and you hope they come back to get you.

Maine is BIG!

Sounds like you would like a Maine Sporting Camp. Check out these.

Tell them Capt Walt sent ya

I just want to hunt bear over bait and stay in the outfitters camp/lodge, eat there, get transportation to & from the stand and have hide& meat services if lucky. Fish if there is time. Want a mild season hunt, bugs OK. Bunk room ok with some security, private room better.

Pete for example wants you to stay in town, find your own eats, drive to his place, and wait in the blind with a radio if you take a shot. Nope. Not for me.

Rather than making a pretty blind choice, was looking for some hands on info from bulleteers. Thanks so far.
